Adopted a young Syrian hamster last weekend. The application process was easy yet clearly showed they care about where the hamster is going. When we arrived we were given plenty of time to meet him by ourselves in an environment he was already comfortable in so we could see his personality before a potentially stressful trip home. We were given lots of advice and it all went smoothly.

Excellent reception and service.
very welcoming and knowledge was excellent
the adoption process was explained well as was the after adoption needs and offers of any help needed.
The whole experience of this centre was second to none and we would recommend this centre to anyone wanting to adopt.
We have adopted 2 wonderful little kittens who have made our home theirs and settled in very well as part of our lives and know that through the help of Bluecross TRC we definitely made the right choice, and they have our thanks for enabling us to adopt these 2 kittens.Review by: David J Blee

Excellent centre with caring staff who matched our new cat to our home and needs. Buster (aka Nelson) has exactly the personality we were looking for. He has settled in well with no problems getting on with our 5 year old cat Molly, though she is still somewhat "hissy" but follows him around to play nevertheless.

The staff were very helpful, the centre is clean and the cats are well looked after. The staff know the personalities of each cat and which ones would be suited to me and my young son. I was given lots of information on how to look after my cat, and any questions I had the staff were more than happy to answer. They got in contact when they said they would and made the process of rehoming very easy. I would highly recommend this centre!Adoption: February 2014

We were looking for a cat as we had returned from Spain and bought our Spanish cat with us.The centre’s staff were helpful in finding a cat to suit our desires and it was narrowed down to 2 cats as we already had an older cat at home. Our first choice was Elsa and she fitted the bill completely although she was very timid and originally a 2 year old stray that had been handed back to the centre. She had been in the centre for some time and I think she was bored .We exchanged blankets for the sent test and made several visits to the centre to familiarise Else with us. She spent most of her time hidden away from everyone but in time she became happy with us and seemed to except us as familiar faces. The time came to take her home (15 July 2013) and after a lot of very helpful advice from the staff and in particular Elaine Dale, we took her home. She has settled in so well with our older cat from Spain (well I think Kitty Cat tolerates her) she now has her own routine and is a very big part of our family. We wouldn't want to lose her and are so pleased that we have been able to give an unwanted cat a new home. We have found the Face book page that the centre run very helpful and we do keep in contact with them and paying visits to the centre from time to time to see the new intake of cats. That's not to say one day we may be a 3 cat family. The centre do such good work for the cats and on every visit we have found it to be very clean and tidy and we are always greeted with a smile from the staff. A BIG well done to Blue Cross Torbay Rehoming Centre and thank you so much for making our family complete.Mr C Carter. Adoption: November 2013

The whole process was easy and informative and we have two lovely new pets who are settling in really well. I would highly recommend the Blue Cross and although the Torbay (Watcombe) site is small it is well run and the animals well looked after. We are very happy and hope our new cats are too. After the loss of one of our cat's we contacted the blue cross about a kitten that would be suitable with our other cat.
They recommended a sense test between the two cat's and that the cat we enquired about would not be a good match.
We did a sense test and adopted the kitten the following week.
They were very supportive and after we adopted the recommended kitten offered us support if he didn't settle which we didn't need thankfully.
They explained how nervous he would be as he was rescued after someone had put him his mother his brother and sister were put in a carrier bag and thrown in the bottom of a field and left.
He was really nervous around any people but adores our cat he is very affectionate and loving an excellent pet to have in our home the staff clearly know what they are talking about and i will always recommend the Blue Cross. Adoption: Jan 2013 -

We were advised on the phone for kittens which would fit our home situation, with two cats already and were given a choice of kittens. I really liked the idea of swapping used blankets, one for her to have and one to take home for our cats approval. We knew of her background too and were able to see mum. Adoption: July 2013

The centre appeared to be run very efficiently and felt like an extremely caring environment. All the staff were very well informed and helpful and clearly cared about the cats. There was a volunteer there on the day we first visited, spending some quiet time with the cats, which I thought was lovely. We are absolutely delighted with the new addition to our family, and I would have no hesitation in recommending the Blue Cross to others. Adoption: May 2013

I contacted Blue Cross Torbay prior to Christmas with regards to adopting a kitten/cat. The information provided on the phone was very good.
I visited on the 29 December 2012 and would received excellent assistance and they took the time to go through the process. I ended up with two kittens black and grey (brothers).
Both kittens were collected on the 5 January from Blue Cross. During the week of collection the communication from the centre was excellent and when they said they will phone they did. 5 stars. for customer satisfaction.
Well done Blue Cross. Adoption: Jan 2013 -

As someone who had never owned a cat before the staff were very helpful and informative. They were very patient with me during several visits and doing their best to match me correctly with a cat.
The only thing missing was possibly a follow up phone call or email to see how we were getting on - especially as this was a new experience for me.
But otherwise all was excellent. Adoption: Jan 2013 -

The rescue centre was clean, the cats were clearly well cared for - not only their food/ water/litter trays but also the staff spent time socialising them especially the kittens. They all knew exactly what was needed for each animal and knew the individuals cats very well.
Their advice was crucial to us adopting 2 kittens rather than 1 and now we have them we understand exactly what they meant.
When 1 of our kittens needed further operations they were keen to explain why and reassured us that he would be well - we even swapped scent blankets so that the kittens were able to bond when they finally met up at our house! Adoption: Nov 2012 -

We were given names of cats suited to our lifestyle and child. we looked at a black cat calles jack. The staff were polite and caring ( their own personnal nature). They sat us down and went professionaly through his paperwork.
We were given telephone numbers if we needed them and Jack was always welcomed back if anything happened. That was a wonderful note. Anything happened to me,i know my cat has a home. Adoption: 2012 -

we adopted 2 cats in May, and was very pleased on the information we were given to help them settle in to their new home. We have been back 21/07/12 and adopted a kitten as well, even though things were explained to us for the previous cats, the staff still explained the procedure for our new kitten. Adoption: 2012

We adopted our cat Sox from the Blue Cross Centre in Torquay, Devon, in June 2012. The centre is spotlessly clean, with knowledgable, friendly, caring staff. The cats all have decent sized runs with cosy beds and each have toys to play with. The adoption process was clearly explained and was very easy to understand and to arrange. Would have no hesitation in recommending the centre to friends. Adoption: 2012

Very clean kennels. We have the opportunity to keep in touch via their Facebook page & share our photos/stories. Offered support after adoption which I haven't needed as I work for a vets, but many people contact them via Facebook which gives everyone else a chance to read the replies, in case they have the same problem. Would definitely recommend them. Excellent staff & service. Adoption: April 2012

I’m sorry to hear about the disappointment you felt following your approach to Blue Cross to rehome a cat. Homes with two or more cats are more likely to experience behaviour problems such as behavioural inhibition (hiding, avoidance, inactivity), spraying, house soiling and aggression. To reduce the risk of placing a cat in an unsuitable home Blue Cross staff will take the time to ask more about the home environment. For example what resources are provided (number of feeding stations, litter trays and position, sleeping areas etc) and the personalities and behaviour of any pets currently in the home. This helps Blue Cross staff and the potential new owner to ensure that the new cat and current residents will settle peacefully and quickly together. I am sorry if this was not fully explained to you but happy to hear that your cats and new kitten have settled well together.

The staff were brilliant and warm I felt welcome and free to ask any questions.
A really lovely centre my only thing I feel could be inproved was when my husband came to collect them they could not go as were not well it would of been good to have a call to save the drive from Plymouth. Adoption: 2011 -

Negative about us having 2 cats and wanting a third. Told us cats are solitary animals and we could cause behaviour problems in them by having several.
We decided not to proceed with the process as a result of how staff were. I was disappointed as other BC centres I have had contact with were good.
We adopted a kitten from a rescue we had adopted from previously and have been happy, so have the cats! Visit: 2011 -

The Blue Cross was the 3rd shelter we contacted. The first was not happy adopting a cat to a family that had young children but, were happy to let us have a kitten ??? The second did not have a cattery in which the cats could be viewed and we were given the name of a cat the lady thought would be appropriate for us, this seemed a bit odd.
Torbay Blue Cross was welcoming from the start and throughout. We were able to look at the cats, staff suggested which ones might be more suited to us and we had time to spend with them. We have a dog and were given lots of advice on introducing them to each other including taking blankets home and into the cattery in which they could get used to each others smell. We also took our dog to meet the cat before bringing her home.
We brought our cat (Kitty) home and it now feels like she has always been a part of our home.
Thank you Blue Cross Torbay, you do an amazing job. Adoption: 2011

Blue Cross Torbay were first class and exceeded my expectations. They took time to find out about me, my home and life and what kind of cat would suit me best. I looked at several and found the perfect cat who they knew would really benefit from a quiet home so he could gain confidence. Very impressed with adoption process and paperwork being completed in advance. Couldn't be more delighted with them or Freddie. Adoption: 2011

Our visit to the blue cross was to find a friend for our existing cat eddie. We found the staff at the centre to be very helpful and knowledgeable. All the cats we saw were in good condition and happy. We were matched with several cats but we were allowed to take our time visiting and playing with all the cats at the centre. The matches we were given were good, and the cat we chose suited us and our circumstances perfectly. Adoption: 2011

The organisation really cares about giving cats a good home, they don't try and make you take unsuitable cats just to get rid of them but at the same time they don't make you feel like you are not good enough to adopt. This was our second adoption from them which was tougher than the first, as we were trying to find a suitable match for a bereaved brother, but their after support was really good, they had recommended a perfect match and the fact that after a rocky start they get on perfectly makes me recommend them at every chance I get. When our 'old man', Tails, became too frail to play with young Mischief, we went back to Blue Cross Torbay for a livelier companion for her. We ended up with a tiny, nervous tabby kitten called Zola. She has become a talkative, demanding little witch, who fits perfectly in our nutty family! Sadly we lost Tails due to old age and blindness, earlier this year (he was 20), but Mischief and Zola have helped to fill the space he left. Thanks to all at Blue Cross who 'fitted' the right kitten/cat with our needs, we will DEFINITELY be back. Adoption: 2010

I have never owned a cat before, and the staff at Blue Cross Torbay were very helpful in explaining exactly what needed to be taken into consideration re. time/money/responsibility. All the animals in their care seemed healthy and contented, and my son and I were given ample opportunity to look around and to ask any questions. I was 'matched' with a cat that I had not really considered from looking at the website, and a previous visit to look around, and it turned out that their choice was perfect! We have had Noodle (was Jess) for 16 months now, she has been completely at home with us from Day 1. Adoption: 2010

I believe the blue cross has a fantastic reputation, giving us an opportunity to adopt two cats, there knowledge care and guidance, ensured we selected the best age group and temperament of cats for our lifestyle. paying a small donation ensured they had the best checks and treatment prior to adopting for their new start. Both our cats from the centre are so happy, enjoying life to the full and I'm sure they would give the staff a big hug if they could, Thankyou:). Adoption: 2010

I adopted my beautiful cat Pernod from the Torbay Blue Cross 6 years ago. He had been well cared for by the centre and was 7 when I got him. I was asked to complete a Homefinder form and then showed animals matching my circumstances with no pressure put on me to make a decision. The staff had a detailed knowledge of each cat in their care and were able to give practical advice before and after the adoption if needed. When I phoned to ask a question aboout letting him out they response was very helpful and it was nice to have their expertise to fall back on. Because Pernod was on a special diet, the manager had even phoned me to check that I was clear about the food, quantities etc and they gave me some of the special dry food he was on to take away with me.
Adopting an animal from a rescue centre is a very rewarding experience and the pleasure of seeing my little shy cat blossom into a confident, happy animal is really something special. If you adopt from a centre then the animal is health checked, fleaed, vaccinated and wormed and its behaviour assessed so you can be really confident in the adoption process. Based on my experience I would recommend this centre to anyone thinking of homing a cat or cats. Adoption: 2006
