On arrival to the centre it instantly felt calm and welcoming all staff I encountered were happy, chatty and very welcoming. After a short wait we were soon taken to meet Mocca and had a chat and I felt able to answer any questions I had and equally felt they were answered with good knowledge and understanding of Moccas needs and her story.
this was all prior to very helpful communication via email beforehand again I never felt I was pestering them or that anything was too much trouble.
im very glad to of been able to rescue and I thank the staff for all their help and advice and the offer of further advice if needed and they were keen to have updates from us going forward.
Thank You very much I would not hesitate to come back or recommend.Review by: SianW

The staff at Burford Rehoming Centre made the process so easy. I was called within 20 mins of submitting my application and after a short but thorough interview I was invited to reserve the rats. On the day I collected them, the staff were understandably a little flustered as there was a dog giving birth and camera crews filming around the centre! However, I was seen very quickly and the rats' medical background, ongoing care and other bits were brilliantly explained to me. They knew I'd owned rats before so they knew that I knew what I was doing, so they weren't at all patronising and simply ensured I was up to speed with what these particular rats needed. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Burford Rehoming Centre and will definitely adopt from there again in the future.

A good friend had recently used Blue Cross to rehome a well loved cat after his owner passed away so I chose to look on their website because my beautiful, loving, tortoiseshell and white cat had recently passed away and my house was not a home any more.
I was looking for a different breed but it was the name of the cat needing to be rehomed that caught my attention first. This nine month old kitten was black and I had not had a black cat before. Having read all about Herbie (my late sister many years ago had had a tabby called Herbie and I felt I was meant to have this one) I contacted Blue Cross in Burford. I live in Northamptonshire so it was arranged I would visit Herbie and if he liked me I would bring him home with me. It was love at first sight for both of us. It is almost three weeks since my house became a home again. Herbie loves chasing toy mice, lying on the windowsills catching the sun and watching what goes on outside. He is very affectionate and comes on my lap for cuddles. I carried him out into my small back garden this morning so he could sniff the air. He was a little apprehensive but then had a walk around with me (he wore a harness and lead) and had a good sniff at several places. I am sure he will be out and about within a week or two. I am thrilled his confidence is building. He is very loving and in his own "purry" way he says he is very happy to be rescued by me. .
Blue Cross Burford are amazing with their dedicated staff who go the extra mile to match the animals in their care. Every details is covered for the well-being of them. I can't praise them enough.Review by: Christine Pawlowski

professional, considerate and passionate about giving care to animals in need. Interaction with the team was great and very informative.
Our previous cat unfortunately died, and we shared the story with the center and the team supported us with a great call to talk through the process and options like foster (initially) to adopt. Which we chose as there was uncertainty about timing, especially after the loss of a pet, as they become a family member.
Overall excellent! ;-) I would highly recommend the Burford Blue Cross team, and thank them for all the expertise, support and advice.Review by: Ed Lewis

The Process of finding Benny on the BlueCross website, to contacting them and collecting him was so simple and easy! When I arrive to get him we were greeted by a friendly lady and talked through everything and had time to ask questions. After being home for a week I received an email from the BlueCross asking how Benny was settling in and asking for any photos I had and also reminding me of all the support out their for bonding with my other Bunny or if I just had any questions. I would recommend anyone to use the BlueCross!

From the moment we received the phone call to say we had been successfully matched with the cat we had seen on the excellent website to the moment we took our lovely cat home the service we received couldn't have been more helpful, professional, informative, thorough or caring.
The staff clearly know the animals well and we were given just the right amount of personally tailored information to make an informed choice about whether she was the right cat for us and to feel confident we could meet her needs and access future behaviour support of necessary.
We have one very happy and much loved cat at home now - thank you Blue Cross Burford for facilitating this.Review by: WillyW

I have been looking to rescue for a while now and the other centres I contacted just didnt seems to be interested in following up with me even though I am in an excellent position to provide a wonderful home. The Burford team were so responsive, engaging and super helpful in the meeting and adoption process. I can honestly provide no negative constructive feedback. The training session pre adoption was great and in observing their interactions with other guests they were wonderfully welcoming to everyone and completely professional.

Absolutely fantastic rescue centre! The staff are friendly, helpful and really wanted to help us find the right animal for us. The first pony we looked at was very sweet and clearly very well looked after but a little too green for us, the second pony who we have now adopted is just what we wanted. Lauren emailed me promptly after I filled in an enquiry form on the website and sent me details of the two ponies she had picked out for me to look at, she answered my extensive questions professionally and fully. Hannah who met us at the gate, interviewed us, showed us the ponies and assessed our suitability for adopting a pony. She was professional, friendly and knowledgable, she explained how the horses were trained at the blue cross, what stage each of them were at and demonstrated handling and riding of them. She was also very patient and kind with my two children who joined us on the visit. Rachel helped us when we went to pick up our new pony and was also kind, patient and professional. She went through all the paperwork and advice with us in a very professional manner with most emphasis on caring for our new pony appropriately and ensuring that we were happy with the arrangements as well as the Blue Cross. Rachel also specially opened the 2nd hand tack shop for us so we were able to purchase some equipment for our new pony while we were there. Overall I would say the Blue Cross Burford are and absolutely 5 star rescue centre, the animals are well cared for, all the staff are friendly and dedicated to finding the right homes for the animals in their care.

As soon as I entered I was struck by the warm, friendly atmosphere, and this was confirmed when I met the staff. Their love and concern for the animals in their care was very evident. I was given a lot of detailed information about the dog I was interested in (and eventually adopted) and helpful advice about adoption generally and him specifically. (Some before I went to meet him, but also face to face). Our interviews were unhurried but thorough, all my questions were answered, and I really couldn't fault the volunteers and staff at all. I would definitely recommend this rescue to anybody.

Very professional. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff and a really clean and pleasant environment. We felt extremely welcome, the process was efficient but also thorough and it was clear that the staff knew and cared for the animals in their charge. No one wants any animal to need re-homing but if one has to go somewhere then I can think of no better place than this.

A very professional rescue, run by caring staff who are both well trained and experienced. We have adopted 5 rescue rabbits from the Blue Cross at Burford over the years, each with a very different history and care needs. The care and accommodation is so good that we always say that the animals are better cared for here than in many people's homes! Client assessment and species care is always thorough and follow up calls to see how the pet is getting along and to offer further support are the norm. Animals are never adopted out without vet checks prior to discharge into care of adopter. The staff here are lovely, always welcoming and helpful. The environment for the rabbits is clean and full of enrichment.with their dietary needs being correctly met. We are regular adopters (are rabbits are free running house rabbits who live in a bonded mixed group) and we take on some of the more challenging bunnies, such as one buck who was dumped on the streets and a doe who went through several homes before coming to us because she was difficult to bond. It gives us so much pleasure to offer a home to the bunnies and see them develop in to happy, relaxed and confident pets. The Blue Cross at Burford love to hear updates on how they are doing. I recommend them to all my pet loving friends. The equine side of things is also very good, I have one horse (a rescue) and am not in a position to take on a second but if I were, this would be the first place I would go to.

We were guided through the rescue process to rehome Alvin, a Jack Russell of approx 9 years.
We were given all necessary information, asked all relevant questions and shown professionalism at every step.
The process was made easy and with the staff members help we think Alvin will settle with us very quickly.
Staff at Blue Cross were right, Alvin is a delightful dog, friendly, easy to walk, tolerates other dogs and has his own character. We are so pleased at how quickly he has made himself at home, and lets face it, we now share Alvins home and not the other way round! He is a treasure and we look forward to spending many joyful moments with him.

I visited the Blue Cross rehoming centre to look for a horse, the centre had a number that could have been suitable and after an appropriate riding and handling assessment I was able to meet a number that would fit my requirements. The home check was thorough but reasonable given the requirements of keeping a horse. Everyone I dealt with was professional and friendly but also had good common sense and were practical in their approach. Nice charity to deal with and Bankes is just as they described.

Blue Cross at Burford was extremely professional both towards the animal and ourselves. They gave us as much information about our new dog as they possibly could. Took time to make the introductions even to the point of how we were going to transport the new dog to our home. They ensured that both us and the dog were a match and this has proven to be the case. The needs of the dog came first in all their deliberations and I can only highly commend them for this. As it has turned out, we have a lovely staffie dog who has brought much fun and laughter into our lives. He is a big boy with a big heart and we are so grateful to the Blue Cross for allowing them to have him.

I felt that when I first got an email they seemed very happy to help and gave me the full information as the horse I was interested in was already being viewed but they said I could go and see her any way and they would get in contact with me. Which they did I went back and got the chance to handle and care for the horse that I was looking to adopt. The next step was a field check and the lady who came out was very helpful with lots of information for me about the horse. She then called to say I could have her and then after a few weeks she was delivered for me to my field. All the time I was dealing with them I felt they answered every question I had and would have gone up and beyond to help me and wanted the best for their horse.

The staff are really friendly & helpful at Blue Cross Burford and we felt extremely reassured by the level of questioning we received about our ability to look after a pet and about the pet's suitability to our lifestyle. Our (numerous!) questions were also answered with a great deal of knowledge and obvious affection for the animals in their care. We have had no nasty surprises with our new dog & she is settling in well. Additionally we were offered lifetime support for the dog - training etc.
My only negative comment would be that while we were told about the importance of pet insurance & told that PetPlan would automatically continue our insurance if we wanted it, a lack of detailed medical history about our dog is making insuring her quite problematic (with PetPlan). This could be better coordinated to give a fuller history, where known, to the new families to prevent these types of issues.
Generally very happy and our dog is settling in really well!Review by: Tori

My partner and I went to the centre looking for a companion to my (then) one horse. We had our eye on a mare who had been there for quite a few years. We were told, even before our arrival, that she had been unsuccessfully rehomed in the past and given a very honest and frank history. We still decided to go and see her and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. They let us take her for a walk to see how she was, spend as much time with her as we wanted, went through her needs and limitations and answered all our questions. They made the adoption process very simple and were clear about the further visits that would be required, both for her sake and ours, and made sure we knew that if we had any problems or questions, that we were not to hesitate to contact them. She arrived (looking amazing) a month later, and we're coming up to our 7th year with her. Couldn't be happier with the help and service we received.

I can thoroughly recommend this rescue centre, the whole team are very welcoming and supportive and the care given to our new companion Ruby prior to her re-homing with us was fantastic. She unfortunately had an ear infection which delayed her re-homing but the lovely staff kept us informed with her vets reports and treatment and we were able to visit her regularly to bond and play. Whilst we would have loved to have taken her home almost immediately they delayed her release until the vet had confirmed she was totally fit to come home.
Should my circumstances or those of friends and family with pets change I wouldn't hesitate to recommend and contact this re-homing centre as I would be totally confident that any animal would receive loving care whilst with them and that a very suitable long term new home would be found for them.

I cannot say just how impressed I am with the Blue Cross and their rehoming process. It is professional, thorough, careful and gives us confidence as adopters that the dog we were matched with is just right for us. The animals in their care are individuals to them, and where they do not have a full history, they take their time to assess temperament and give solid advice to potential adopters about what to expect from their new companion and ways to help with the transition to our family life. Before taking our new dog home, we had a thorough session learning about the dog's routine and training, so we could continue where they left off. And the dog was thoroughly health checked and his temperament well assessed. We cannot recommend them highly enough. Adoption: November 2013

The staff at the Blue Cross Burford, handled our dog 'Beanie's ' adoption with curtesy and understanding, both of our requirements as having recently lost one of our own dogs, through old age, and the requirements of our remaining dog Sasha, who was pining for Amber the dog that recently passed. They took the time, to help us understand Beanie's needs and requirements, as an insecure pet with very diverse needs. They explained all of Beanie's past history, both emotional and medical, with the aim of giving us the understanding to be able to meet the needs and requirements of both dogs. The dog meets that we had with Beanie, went so well that they were positive from the first meeting, that Beanie and Sasha would fit well together. The staff at Burford, were not only curtious and helpful, but from the beginning of our meetings with Beanie, prior to the adoption, They assured us that, they were at the end of the phone to assist with any issues that may arise after we had brought her home. The staff at the Blue Cross Burford, dealt with us in the most professional manner, from start to finish. We would have no problems in recommending The Blue Cross at Burford to anyone seeking to adopt a pet, as the service they provide is second to none. We would like to express our thanks to all the Blue Cross Staff at Burford, from Beanie, Sasha, Shaun, Paul, and Renee, for all that they have done. Adoption: October 2013

We visited the centre with our two children and they were brilliant. They were knowledgeable about their dogs and also good with their introductions to the children. They were friendly and professional, and very patient with the kids. They discussed behaviour, health, insurance and issues of integration into our family too - we couldnt have asked for any more. Our dog has so far been a fantastic edition to our family, and we have the blue cross to thank. Very pleased. Adoption: September 2013

We found all the staff very helpful and knowledgeable about the animals in their care. When we asked about the cat that we wanted to adopt we were asked many questions so that they were sure that we were the right people for her and she was the correct cat for us. We are very impressed with the way that the Blue Cross work to make sure that each and every animal is given the correct home. After a few days we contacted them for some advice, and again they were extremely helpful and informative. Adoption: Oct 2012

Excellent website updates on all new cat arrivals. Staff all very friendly, accommodating and efficient. Gave honest appraisal of all the cats we looked at. As you'd expect from BC, all the animals on site are extremely well cared for with run space and toys to explore. Adoption process clear and straightforward. Good experience all round. We adopted our pony Ellie and we are extremely impressed with the service we recieved from blue cross.Ellie arrived after quite a difficult family time as i had to go in to hospital unexpectedly and blue cross was very patient with the delay in adoption.(we would of been heartbroken if we couldnt of had her ). The only negative is i feel we could of had a bit more history of the pony. it is quite difficult to comprehend that we really dont know anything about our new family addition. As it happens Ellie has settled really well and is a very much loved family member. The staff were all excellent and they work soooooooo very hard ! We would definately do this again !! Being first time dog owners, we needed support in how to best train and look after our new rescue dog. Burford Blue Cross ensured we had everything we needed in order to care properly for our dog, and have said that if we ever need advice in the future, their doors are open to us. Absolutely brilliant home and staff and will always go to Burford first if we look to rehome other animals. Adoption: May 2013

The people at the Blue Cross Burford were happy and helpful and gave us the opportunity to find our perfect pet. They allowed us to spend time with our dog; walking, playing and socialising before we made our choice. They did their best to answer any questions we had, which in turn helped us to settle Hugo in as soon as possible. We now have a happy dog who has settled into our home. Adoption: April 2013

We were warmly welcomed at the shelter and quickly invited to see the animals. One of the two cats we were interested in from the website was not available to it as it was being rehomed from an address close to our own. This was explained sympathetically and we were not allowed to meet her so that distress on both sides was avoided. This was disappointing but because it was carefully explained, totally understandable.
Our suitability to adopt the other cat we were interested in was thoroughly checked before we were allowed to meet her.We were then given plenty of time to sit with her to ensure we were happy and the cat seemed to like us. All staff were friendly and polite at all times and happy to answer all our questions. The whole experience was fantastic. We returnd the following day to collect our beautiful cat and she is already settling in well at our home. Adoption: March 2013 -

Finding a suitable pet was made easy by expert and friendly staff. Being able to see and read about the animals for adoption was very useful. The staff went out of their way to make sure everyone was satisfied. We are very happy with our new pet thanks to Burford Blue Cross. The only two suggestions I have for improvement are more products to purchase and a follow up phone call would have been nice. Overall a very good experience and would recommend. Feb 2013

I was very impressed with all of the staff at Burford Blue Cross, and with the facilities there too. Everyone was friendly and knowledgable and the best interest of the animals was at the forefront of their work. I rehomed a cat after looking on the home's website, then a telephone conversation, face to face meeting with a member of staff and then meetings with the cat in question! They were very helpful in finding the right pet to suit both mine and the animal's needs - I really couldn't have asked for more. The website is great too, regularly updated with the animals available for rehoming, with lots of photos and details. I'd definitely go back. Adoption: Feb 2013

From start to finish with meeting my new dog, the experience was outstanding. The handlers at the shelter were extremely professional, knowledgeable and very caring toward all the animals. They took time to read the adoption form and provide their input for the perfect match and not just the dog i wanted to see. We ended up adopting the dog they thought was a great match for my wife and i and she was, in fact, a brilliant match for us. Very well done. I will and have recommended Burford Blue Cross to everyone I know. Two staff in particular are dedicated, professional and exhibit the highest level of training and caring for their animals. Thank you. Adoption: Jan 2012

Having had good experiences of other animal rehoming organisations I was unexpectedly so impressed with the Blue Cross at Burford. I would recommend anyone to use this Centre to find their ideal pet. The reason I was impressed was because quite simply the whole emphasis of the adoption process was on the animal, in my case the most gorgeous Working Cocker Spaniel. The process was quick and efficient and professional from start to finish. It was clear that the staff really cared about my gorgeous dog and wanted to get the right home for him. Adoption: 2012

Hello,
I have recently adopted my dog Mushu from the Bluecross Rescue Centre in Burford ,Oxfordshire.
I first saw Mushu,an Akita bitch on the Bluecross website.
Having read the information on her and watched the short video of her and her handler/trainer, i spent a day or two thinking as to whether or not i could give her the loving home and care she deserved. After discussing Mushu with my ex wife, who has an Akita, i decided that Mushu was the dog for me and that i was right for her.
I telephoned the Bluecross at Burford for further information and was promptly given excellent advice on both the adoption process and the Akita breed,Mushu in particular.
When i went to meet Mushu, the handler/trainer that brought her out from the kennels, took myself and my ex wife round with him while he walked Mushu. He was excellent, he explained in more detail about Mushu and what her needs were, answered all our questions in a professional manner and was polite.
After walking for a while, he allowed me to walk Mushu for a while whilst he was with me.My ex wife and i left feeling that the visit had been very enjoyable and successful. I could hardly wait for our next visit.
On our second visit, my ex wife and i took her Akita to meet Mushu to see how they got on as they would be walking together fairly often. We walked the two bitches together, and they both seemed happy together.
The next time we went to see Mushu, was on the day we picked her up.
When we arrived, they brought Mushu out to where we were waiting. We then took Mushu to one of the paddocks where i got to see Mushu off lead. They went over all Mushus history with me and gave me lots of useful tips and advice. After a while, Mushu was taken back to her kennel while we took care of all the paperwork. Once all the formallities were done, Mushu was brought out for me to take her home.
Mushu is an excellent animal, she is quick to learn and well behaved. In the week and a half that i have had her, Mushu has constantly amazed me with how good she is.
I would like to thank all the staff at Bluecross Burford for their hard work they have put into Mushu. I also would like to say a special thank you to those working directly on my adoption for their help and guidance in making the adoption process so smooth and enjoyable, also for their professionalism in all aspects of both the care of the animals in there care and in their knowledge and application of the adoption process.
I would strongly urge anybody thinking of adopting an animal to go to Bluecross Burford, Oxfordshire. You will be treated with great courtesy and professionalism through out the entire process and beyond by the knowledgeable and dedicated staff. Adoption: 2012

Second rescue dog. He is a beauty! Daft and absolutely soppy at same time. Already showing his character and is a perfect match to the family! Thank you Blue Cross. He has medical problems which Blue Cross are kindly supporting us on. We have always been suckers for the older boys who have problems and hence possibly hard to find homes for, our last Labrador was in a similar position and came to be the a loved member of our family who left a big waggy tail hole in our lives. The staff at the centre were superb, happy they had found another abandoned dog a home and yet slightly sad to see a character they obviously bonded with leave. We would like to believe that Rolo found us, not we found Rolo. Adoption: 2012

This piece was written just prior to adoption of Dexter a Border Collie.
Dexter's trainer and handler, spent a lot of time with my Husband and I firstly seeing if we had potential to adopt a BC. Over a period of 4 days she taught us about Dexter, his personality and needs along with what will be invaluable instruction for his continued health, happiness and development. I was very reassured by them that if a problem appears that we are not sure how to deal with the Blue Cross will be there for support and guidance. Finally I do not see how they could possible improve upon what they are already doing; truly excellent and heart warming experience. Adoption: 2012 -

Had several visits - all very positive. The children fell in love with a 3-legged cat which they warned us needed to see the vet again before it could be rehomed as it appeared a little stiff. Received a phone call to say that she couldn't go home as needed pain killers. Then had another phone call to say she reacted to the pain killers and couldn't be rehomed at present. Decided to look at another cat and got a wonderful affectionate cat absolutely perfect for us. They took into account the needs of the cat first which made us feel confident with them and the care they give the animals. Adoption: 2012

This was the first time I have visited the centre and I was very impressed. The centre is very clean and well cared for, the staff were very pleasant and friendly greeting you with a smile and hello as you passed by. They showed me round the centre explaining the visiting and adoption process for all the animals there. The small animal section was lovely, laid to lawn at the front with large enclosures for the rabbits (not small hutches you may find at other rescues), and the cattery has large individual enclosures with housing for each cat, and all the animals appeared very calm and happy. The centre doesnt allow the public to simply roam the Kennels as this can disturb the dogs, so has a process in place allowing you to find out about each dog, and if you are interested in one in particular will arrange for the dog to come out and meet you away from the others, keeping the kennel environment calm - a great idea. The whole process was very straight forward, all the staff were clearly very caring towards the animals and we're very knowledgable when discussing the animals and there care. We have adopted a cat with a skin condition and they were very open and honest about his health problems and when we collected him they gave us a full supply of his medication and specialist diet. I visited the cat 3 times before collection and I was never rushed and there was always someone on hand to answer any questions. Our adoption pack included advice leaflets, money -off vouchers and a full vetinary and insurance trial summary. Adoption: 2012

I feel that the staff were knowledgable about the animals in their care and were keen to match the prospective owner with a dog that was suitable to them. They were informative about the behaviour and offered advice on training and what was right for the dog.The adoption process gave us the opportunity to get to know the dog and visa versa. All the Blue Cross staff we came into contact with were professional, pleasant and helpful. Adoption: 2012

Adopting ponies into an established herd can be a tricky business, but this was totally understood at the Blue Cross, and the whole process was met with an understanding, reasonable and realistic attitude. Our main concern was the horses we already owned but we wanted to offer the right home to the right ponies, who needed what we had to offer. Our thoughts and experience were taken seriously , so we felt happy to say no to one pony we felt would not be happy with us , our reasons understood and accepted. Another pony was sought and found and both were "introduced" before we collected them.We now have 2 companion mares alongside our riding horses and all is well.....one mare is very elderly and we appreciate she may not be here for long, but will enjoy her time with us as we delight in her" senior moments".The Blue Cross Process should be the "Blue Print" for all other Charities !! I filled in a questionnaire to give the Blue Cross details of my background, where I lived, previous experience of owning cats etc. I did not visit any other animal adoption centres, so am unable to offer any comparison.
They were very knowledgeable about the animals they had up for adoption - with notes from the owners and previous vet reports giving details on their habits, temperament, previous living arrangements (with children, main road etc). All the staff were genuinely interested in the animals and the people they were matching them up with and I felt totally at ease with my decision. They offered any follow up advice if needed. My only very minor criticism is that since I have brought Angel home, they have not contacted me at all to see how she has settled in or how she is. I would have expected them to do this. My cat has settled in very well and we have been matched perfectly. Both of us very happy :) -

I am able to comment only on the adoption of a horse. I thought the whole organisation and the process was efficient, kindly and professional, with great care being taken correctly to match animals with adopters and to spell out all the implications of the process. The follow-up has also been thorough and helpful, and I would have no hesitation in recommending the Blue Cross to others. Adoption: 2012

We found our new dog on the website which was very clear, after submitting the adoption form I was contacted within an hour to discuss my needs and the suitability of the dog. We visited within 3 days and a return visit within 2 days of this, each time we were suprised at how helpful the staff were and how knowlegable they were. At the hand over all aspects were very clearly explained including the follow up call and if we have any issues to get back intouch straight away. We were so pleased with the service, the staff were very happy and this seems to rub off on the dogs. Adoption: 2010

Our whole experience was nothing short of outstanding from start to finish. We were put in touch with the centre by a breeder recommended by the Kennel Club. She did not have any puppies available for us at the time, but stated she was involved in Pet Rescue and had just been advised there were two of the breed we were searching for at the Blue Cross centre in Burford. We gave all our details and applied on line. I followed this up with an email to the centrwe as well. Less than 24 hours later we received a call from the centre; and after a short conversation were invited down to view 'Hettie' a Miniature Schnauzer, 3 Years Old. Although we were over 250 miles away in the North east, this did not present a problem for us. We arrived at the centre and were greeted in a very professional, polite and friendly manner. A few moments later a representative came to talk to us, take us through Hettie's details and check our details. He was also extremely friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Once the formalities were over we met Hettie and immediately fell in love with her. She has a few issues due to her background, but was exactly what we were looking for. We went away and had some lunch and then came back to finalise everything and take her home. She has settled in extremely quickly and without any fuss. She likes a lot of affection and is not adverse to climbing on to your chest when you are sitting down and staring you in they eye until you give in. She is excellent in the house and settles down each night without any fuss and does not leave any 'presents' for us to find in the morning. We never thought we would be able to replace our Labrador who died of old age but Hettie has quickly replaced her and our household is once again complete. Adoption: 2012

We found the whole process of adopting from the Blue Cross Burford a thorough pleasure.
The inital telephone enquiry gave us lots of detailed information about the animals we were interested in, indicating that a very thorough assessment had been done.
We were told the good as well as the 'not so good', which enabled us to make a properly informed decision.
When we went to visit we were able to ask further questions before deciding to take the dogs for a walk.
The member of staff gave us further tips on how we could improve the dogs' training.
We decided later that day to go ahead with the adoption and collected them a few days later.
We, at no point, felt pressured into making a decision.
The end result is two dogs perfectly suited to us; a beautful addition to our family.
Our experience could'nt have been better. Adoption: 2012 -

You couldn't wish for a better animal rescue/welfare organisation. All the animals are kept in a clean and orderly environment. Animals all seem healthy and happy and are all seen by a vet and thus receive any care necessary. The animals are usually neutered and innoculated by the charity if they already haven't been. Dental work etc is done for the animals before adoption usually too (even though I had already shown an interest in the cat, they went ahead and removed 3 teeth) . Often animals are tested for certain diseases before adoption. The animals do not cost any more even though they have had any of the above treatments. The staff are friendly, well educated and well informed. They are very helpful and will guide you to the right pet for your circumstances. All known medical history and current medical status of animals is disclosed so that you do not adopt an animal that will give you unexpected veterinary costs. You can get 4 weeks free pet insurance when adopting an animal from here. Adoption: 2012

Welcoming staff who were informative about animals that were suitable to be rehomed with young children. Very smooth rehoming procedure with good explanation re care and list of dates for health needs etc. Only slight difficulty we encountered was in trying to contact centre to confirm we wanted to rehome Maple - left message but no return of call within 48hrs which meant another phone call - ? problem with their answering phone as someone phoned me a week later regarding message saying I had left it that day! The whole process was fast, efficient and friendly. All our questions were answered and more. Documentation to read up on was easy to ready, not bombarded with complicated stuff.
Being a first time dog owner it would have been good to have had a more hands on training session, longer than 15 minutes to helpf with confidence. Would have been happy to pay a one off free for a session with a trainer.
We would recommend the Blue Cross at Burford for rehoming, very good centre, lovely friendly helpful staff who definitely care about what they do. Adoption: 2012 -

The Blue Cross Equine Adoption Centre were excellent in their help with me and the choice of pony I wanted. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and it didn't matter how may times I wanted to visit my prospective new charge. I think the date/visit for the home check could've been arranged quicker. Personally I had a lot of decisions to make regarding the pony adoption and would've liked a slightly faster response time. Adoption: 2012

It was good to be able to look at the descriptions & ages of the cats on the internet before I decided to go & see her. (I could just as easily have decided on a dog, because we have had both in the past). I was able to go & see Flossie & be with her in the cattery to see what she was like before I decided to have her, so that was very helpful.
Burford adoption centre is a happy, bright, beautiful & clean place. All the animals are looked after perfectly, with vet examinations & treatment if necessary. The staff are all very friendly & love the animals they look after whilst in their care. My experience has been happy & caring all round. Having a 'rescue' animal is so rewarding, I feel as if I have given an otherwise homeless cat a good home. Adoption: 2012 -

The Blue Cross adoption centre at Burford were wonderful from the moment we got in touch with them. They responded almost immediately to our request to adopt a cat, and were friendly and engaged with both our circumstances and the requirements of the animal.
When the first adoption fell through (the original owner stopped returning phone calls) they were very supportive and clearly took pains in finding another pet who would suit us.
When it came to being introduced to Indie, we found that the foster carer's report was absolutely spot on with regard to her behaviour and quirks. She was clearly content with the clean, warm, calm environment at the cattery, and the staff handled her with care and professionalism. They had already treated her (minor) medical ailments, and also neutered her for her own welfare. We felt like every box was ticked for us and therefore had a lot of confidence in the process.
Two months later it's clear that they've picked the perfect pet for us. We're in love with Indie and so very glad that we took her in. The Blue Cross have even followed up with phone calls to check on her, and also to warn us when her siblings both came down with a serious parasite infection. It's clear that even now, when Indie is no longer "their problem", they consider the long-term interests of all the animals that pass through their doors as paramount. Adoption: 2012 -

Molly, the cat we adopted was very nervous in the cattery., so much so that she was on the area for mothers and kittens. The staff took a great deal time to make sure that we understood the implications of a nervous cat and that we were prepared and experienced enough to take her on.

I saw Oscar on the Blue Cross, Burford website and immediately knew another little Cavalier King Charles Spaniel would fit perfectly into my family. I rang and spoke to a very helpful lady who explained about his health problems and told me he was blind. We fixed an appointment for me to go and meet Oscar the next day, and I was tremendously impressed by the loving care he was receiving from the staff. I was given time to get to know Oscar a little, and to ask my many questions. We fixed a further appointment for me to visit again the next day with my two other dogs so that the staff could assess whether Oscar would potentially settle down with them. At the beginning of this meeting, the staff took each of my dogs to meet Oscar individually, and then we all went for a little walk together in their lovely spacious country grounds. Finally, the dogs were let off their leads together in a carefully fenced field. All the dogs got on well and I thought it wonderful that the Blue Cross took the trouble to go so carefully through these important processes. It was explained to me that Oscar would be medically fit to leave three days hence, and we fixed an appointment for me to go and formally adopt him. On the day I went to pick him up, I first had “training” in putting in his eye lotion, and in caring for his suture line (he had had surgery whilst at Blue Cross, as well as dental extractions, complete vaccinations and microchipping). I was given detailed instructions about his medical care, and sound advice about helping him to settle down in my home with my other dogs. I was also told to ring up at any time with any queries. I didn't have to ring, but someone from Blue Cross then rang me to check all was well, and that Oscar was settling down. I thought this very kind and considerate. I have had Oscar eleven months now, and he is as much a part of my family as my other dogs. I have an awful lot for which to be thankful to the Blue Cross, Burford. Adoption: March 2012

I was looking for female rescue rats - difficult to find in my area, and didn't want to encourage any breeder or person trying to make money from breeding/selling. The Burford Blue Cross centre came back to me immediately with some information about the 2 rats they had and the adoption and collection was arranged. The centre is lovely, clean, friendly and efficient. The rats were really being looked after well and the process to adopt them smooth, I particularly liked the care guide and information they gave us. Also great to be able to buy accessories and food which I had been unable to get at my local pet store (e.g. Burgess rat food - local stores only have Gertie). Had excellent service from them including a follow up from them to check rats had settled in (which they have - they have joined another female and a neutered boy and all are living very happily together.. it's great to see them all so well and happy). I would definitely recommend Burford to someone else, and I am glad that I was able to donate to them as I know the money will be well used. Adoption: 2012

I initially filled in a form online and they contacted me in less than 24hrs. A full history of Jasper's problems was explained in detail, almost to put you off, but in fact as an eye opener to what we were considering to take on as a family. They were thorough, caring and extremely professional, and not only were we building a relationship with Jasper we were building it with them too and knowing she was assessing us as well as Jasper's behaviour was very reassuring to know she had the confidence in his wellbeing with us. We had regular meetings throughout the week until Jasper finally came home and he has settled in beautifully. Jasper was unfortunate to have spent so long awaiting adoption however he has been well cared for and loved in the Blue Cross centre and he will continue to do so at home too, and I know any problems we may occur, the Blue Cross team will be there if we need them. I cannot thank them enough for completing my family. THANK YOU xxxxxxxx. Adoption: 2012

My visit was wonderful, the staff were very warm and welcoming, I was really impressed with the fantastic cleanliness and condition of the small animal houses, the exterior and the interior of the whole property were a real credit to the staff, I would have no hesitation in recommending Burford to a friend or going back for many return visits. Cleo is our forth rescue dog and our second from the blue cross. We've had good experiences with all the organisations but especially with the blue cross. We found the staff to be friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and supportive, they really seemed fond of their charges and certainly the animals we saw were very well looked after. Since we have brought Cleo home we have been contacted to see how she is settling in and we have exchanged emails and photos, we have been given every support. We would have no hesitation in recommending the blue cross to anyone seeking to adopt an animal from this very worthy organisation. Adoption: 2012

We adopted a young dog and found the Blue Cross excellent in all ways, we were very impressed with all aspects and we found our ideal pet. We appreciated the training advice we were given - how to get our dog to sit, and how to do a recall, with positive re-enforcement. We had'nt had a young dog for many years so found this very informative. the paddocks are great. We felt confident to go home with our pet. Adoption: 2012

The staff were professional and always put the needs of the animal before anything else. They were honest and open and it was obvious that they would never home a dog if it was not right for both parties. Adoption: 2011

We have re-homed a lovely Border Collie from Burford Blue Cross under the homes direct scheme. The dog is wonderful and she was well cared for by the previous owners and the Blue Cross were very effecient in the handling of the viewings and hand over process.
Great to see responsible owners and a go between to ensure re-homing can be done with confidence and re-assurance for all concerned. Adoption: 2011 -

From the moment I placed the phone call to the moment we drove away with Albert, our adopted, gorgeous chocolate labrador, the process was excellent. This is our first dog and throughout the adoption process, the staff were thorough, patient, caring - with both us and the dog - and professional, all delivered with a personal touch, so important to ensure that both ourselves and the dog were a good match for each other. Since bringing Albert home, we have needed advice on one issue and our e-mail was answered promptly by return, with really helpful advice. We looked at the websites of several adoption centres before opting for this one, but our experience with the Blue Cross Burford centre was 100% positive and exceeded our expectations. As I write this, Albert is snoozing whilst lying on my feet; all in all a very worthwhile experience with a delightful outcome for us all. Adoption: 2011

Having adopted older kitten Percy, I will soon wonder what I did without him - and hopefully he will think the same. I was advised how to calm his nerves and settle him in, and within days he is relaxed and affectionate, and itching to go outside and play. Burford staff were loving and caring towards their charges, and Percy seemed to be a favourite. Or maybe that's what they say to all the boys! Adoption: 2011

I adopted a rabbit from Burford Blue Cross to keep my first rabbit company, and found the whole adoption process excellent. The website was very informative and the staff on reception were very helpful and understanding when I explained that I don't drive and work awkward shifts, suggesting practical ways to make sure the process went smoothly. When I got there, it was obvious that the animals were well cared for; enclosures were clean, spacious and stimulating. Staff clearly cared for all the animals, and the news that Tango had found a home travelled fast! The adoption pack was useful and extensive; the veterinary history thorough. Overall a fantastic rescue! Adopted: 2011

This charity is keen to only home animals to the right family with the right skills and circumstances. We were gently refused rehoming of certain older animals due to the young age of our family. However, the organisation provided an alternative - adoption of a kitten.
The process was explained well and we received a phone call within a week of signing up. Adoption: 2011 -

I have adopted 4 animals from Burford over the years and the process has always been professional and very informative. It is clear that animal welfare is paramount and the processes involved in adoption always consider the needs of the animals and the potential owners. And the great service doesn't end there, they are always on hand to offer behavioural advice once the animal has gone home and best if all, the service is all included in the adoption process! A great place that is a pleasure to adopt from. Adoption: 2011

Burford Blue Cross found a lovely cat for us. They were fantastic in every way. We had to wait for the cat as she has just had kittens, she needed to be spayed etc. The staff kept me regularly informed of what was happening with her. Brilliant communication. All the staff I found to be informative, polite and very professional. The centre itself was immaculately clean and all the animals seemed to be very happy in their enclosures. Would definately recommend the Blue Cross they were brilliant I couldn't fault them in anyway. Adoption: 2011

Excellent service on all three visits. We were impressed by the cleanliness of the place and very friendly staff. We are thrilled with our little dog,he has settled in so well. My little dog came into the rescue centre and when I seen him on my computer I got in touch with them while he was still
being assessed. We were very lucky to be in the right place at the right time and adopted our great little dog. The centre make you visit the dog 2-3 times before being allowed to take him home. They gave in house training how to deal with Bradley when we got him home. I would recommend the Blue Cross centre if you want to adopt a dog. They make sure you are matched with the dog. They also requested a photo of our garden. Adoption: 2011 -

It is abundantly clear the welfare of the animals is paramount and quite right too. As far as they could, the staff tried to get to know us - I think the idea is that no animal is left in the centre for longer than necessary, so there was no home visit, and we weren't advised how to settle the dog in, they did know we all work and are all out on occasion for several hours (no more than 5 and that is only two days) - so when we got our dog home and she howled the entire day we all went out we felt at a bit of a loss.
However, the staff DO know the animals inside out and it was clear they had the animals best interest at heart although we do feel that the dog we adopted may suit a family who is at home more, and, perhaps if the staff weren't so keen to pass her on, they might have waited for another family.

The Blue Cross is located in wonderful grounds with excellent, roomy facilities. We received all the information we could have hope for about Merlin and they were even ready with reassurance after he had a bit of bother settling in to his new home. The adoption process was quick and informative, and I would definitely like to adopt from them again in the future. Adoption: 2011

We were seeking another rabbit to introduce to our own rabbit. We first viewed the website which was very useful before visiting the centre. The member of staff was very helpful and guided me. We were given advice and leaflets regarding the care and introduction process which was invaluable. Larry and Polly are living happily together. Adoption: 2011

I was very impressed with the way they assessed the character of the animal. This was very important to us, as we did not want an aggressive dog. The adoption process was as stress free as possible from the dog's point of view - they only bring out the dog you are considering, so the animals are not subject to people going past their cages as though they were in a zoo. The first home we visited did this, and I thought it was like tormenting them. The staff were very affectionate towards the dog we chose, and gave her a bath before she left, which again was less stressful than being bathed by strangers. When she displayed separation anxiety after a few weeks, the staff gave us lots of helpful advice. The dog we adopted had had medical problems, and the Blue Cross had dealt with them and did not rehome her until she was well. I think the way they matched the dog to us was meant the whole process was a success - we love her dearly, and she enjoys being with us. Adoption: 2011

The staff were friendlyand reassuring, they didn't pressure us into taking an animal and gave us time to think. They also gave us two opportunities to spend a reasonable amount of time with the animal before we made our decision.
They were knowledgable and explained a number of things regarding the animal and how to provide her with the best ongoing care.
The staff looked at the form we had filled in to allow them to suggest cats which were suitable.
The adoption process was smooth and all documents were ready upon our arrival to collect the cat. She had had a medical query on the day we were supposed to collect and the centre phoned ahead to explain the situation and postpone the collection so a vet could see her before rehoming.
A very good centre in our opinion! Adoption: 2011 -

I was very impressed by the caring professionalism showed by all staff. I liked the way that I could choose from a folder - which dog I wanted to see, It gave a lot of information about each animal and meant that I didn't have to walk past the kennels. This was less stressful for me and the dogs. The kennels were quiet; very unusual for rescue establishments. The dogs wore DAP (Dog Appeasing Pheromone) collars which help them to relax. All told, it was clear that the welfare of the animals was at the forefront of the Blue Cross ethos. Adoption: 2011

Excellant service from start to finish. We first looked on the web site and saw they had several rabbits for adoption, we visited the burford centre and explained that we were looking for two rabbits to live together, the staff were very plesant and informative. Although they had no pairs available,we deceided to take a female and male and to bond them at home,The staff there offered plenty of advise of how to do this, giving us information packs and other advise of various ways to bond them. One week later we had a very happy pair of bunnies. The medical history they supplied was very thorough, and so was all information regarding their food, insurance etc.I would have no hesitation in recommending the Blue Cross Burford and if ever we were looking for more pets this would be the first place we would contact. I have adopted animals from the Blue Cross at Burford twice now and both times have been an excellent experience. The staff are thorough with their home check interview and I was required to bring photos of the animal accommodation that I have.
The staff are friendly, helpful, and professional and I know will provide post adoption support if needed.
The small animal housing is excellent with animals receiving a thorough check up from a vet and treatment as required.
I would recommend this centre to everyone. Adoption: 2011 -

The Burford adoption centre was amazing in itself and its staff. I contacted them by telephone for pre advice, went on their website to view centres and animals. I visited the centre, brought items from there shop and I have to say it was all first class. They made adopting my bunny a pleasure and I would happily go there again. The premises are extremely clean and tidy and the people are out goingly friendly and helpful. The shops variety of goods is extensive. They gave me all the necessary information and a rehoming pack with my bunny. They went through everything with me beforehand, her past history, adoption process and what I wanted from a bunny. They told me all about the introduction process with her and my other bunny too which was really helpful. The bunnies there have amazing homes. They look as though they are in absolute heaven. If I was a bunny I’d escape just to go there. It's like a bunny 5 * vacation. They are tiptop on health and I can also see this from the vet records they gave me that Mookie received 5 * vet treatment and checks. They didn't make the experience difficult or intimidating and didn't pester me afterwards. I have been keeping in touch with them via email letting them know how she's settling in and I also have been emailing photo's as I think they would appreciate them and be re assured she now has a new loving home !!!!! Buford Blue Cross and staff are amazing!! I found I really enjoyed the adoption process. Adoption: 2011

I met Gilbert my giant rabbit at the end January while on a cycle ride.
From the moment i arrived to look at the rabbit the staff where amazing.
The primary concern to all is the welfare of the animals which is clearly shown from the lovely staff.
The after care has been perfert too, any small concern someone has always been there to help. Adoption: 2011 -

When I first enquired about adopting a horse it did take quite a while before the Blue Cross were able to help me. I now of course realise that they just wanted to match me with the perfect horse for my confidence and ability. This they did and have been extremely supportive and helpful since. I know if I have any problems they are there to advise. When my field officer visited recently to check on my first horse I asked her how easy it would be for me to adopt a second companion horse, she said it would be very easy because they knew me and knew the way I care for my animals. The following day I received a call from the Blue Cross saying they had a Shetland pony who might be suitable for me. We went to see him a couple of days later and fell in love! He was delivered to me the following week and now is very settled and much loved! In my opinion the Blue Cross are doing a wonderful job not just in helping people to adopt an animal, but also in helping people who find themselves unable to keep an animal any longer. It is so reassuring to know that all the animals rehomed are checked on regularly and will always remain under the care of the Blue Cross. Adoption: 2008
